| In a close game the New York (NL) Mets offense put up 5 runs on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning and got by the San Francisco Giants by the score of 7 to 5. Dave Mlicki(1-0) gave New York (NL) a solid outing. He was reached for 7 hits and no walks in 7 innings. Mlicki got help from John Franco who pitched great and earned his 3rd save. Pat Rapp(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He had trouble throwing strikes and issued 7 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. Corey Lidle pitched a 1/3 of an inning, gave up 2 hits, 2 ER. His era for the season now stands at 33.75.
